CONSTRUCTING WALL MURALS TODAY

Kneson Software has developed a software technology that allows the construction of wall murals from a home printer of any image called YottaPrint (see below). YottaPrint was not available until now because of the development of a revolutionary photo enlargement technology called Imagener. Imagener uses a radical raster-to-vector conversion algorithm to allow the enlargement of images many times their original size.

Photo software programs have for years been able to "carve up" electronic images into pieces for wall mural construction, however such an operation was hardly viable because beyond a small amount of photo enlargement, images would "pixelate" or get jagged edges — not useful for display. These photo software programs enlarge digital images through a process called "interpolation": the computation of pixel color values between the pixels that already exist. You can read more about photo enlargement here. This method of enlarging digital images is crude and not very sophisticated. Imagener goes far beyond what even the most expensive photo enlargement programs like Paint Shop Pro® or Photoshop® provide.

WALL MURALS FROM ANY IMAGE

YottaPrint is the first product that allows for wall mural construction of any picture right from home computers and printers.

If you want an image of someone in your family for instance, how would you go about doing this? It would be somewhat improbable that you could get such an image to cover an entire wall without spending thousands to get an artist good enough, or a print shop with a big enough plotter to provide such a wall mural.

The YottaPrint technology allows the construction of such a wall mural with a minimum of expense. YottaPrint pulls in the digital image, enlarges it using the Imagener Unlimited technology (which is built-in, a separate purchase of Imagener Unlimited is not required), and carves up the enlarged result according to exact specifications that the user inputs into the YottaPrint interface. Wall mural panels can then be printed out all at once, or page-by-page.

YottaPrint is the first computer program of its kind. Before now, the technology did not exist to allow for massive photo enlargement without unsightly pixelation. Before the invention of the Imagener technology, enlarged digital photos were so jagged that to present them realistically large enough to cover a wall was impossible.

YottaPrint is easy to use. Once you have selected your image, just open the file and input:

  • Width - width of the wall surface you want to cover


  • Height - height of the wall surface you want to cover


  • Overlap amounts - amount of the overlap that will let you put the pieces together seamlessly


  • Page numbering and crop mark settings
Then you can choose to print all of the pages for the mural at once, or print each page separately. YottaPrint then prints the pieces for constructing the wall mural. YottaPrint is intended to allow you to create amazing murals with just normal printer paper. You can of course use higher grade papers, and/or photographic quality paper with a high resolution photo printer for even better results.

Named for the Yotta (symbol Y) is— a SI prefix in the SI (system of units) denoting 1024 or 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000. Adopted in 1991, it comes from the Greek Okto, meaning eight, because it is equal to 10008. As of today, yotta- is the largest and last SI prefix to be confirmed.
